At the height of the One Caribbean Music Festival debacle was the breach of contract. Media monitoring results indicate that the performers who withdrew at the last minute all had financial issues with their contracts.
As a small events company, we take contracts very seriously; thus, where applicable, we draw up written contracts for our clients for the services we provide, whether they are large or small. In very rare instances, once we are very acquainted and satisfied with the client, we may use oral agreements. With regards to performance contracts, interested parties should be very clear on how details of the contract should be carried out. Such details include, but are not limited to:
How fees should be paid
Event's details
Performer's details
Cancellations details
Other relevant details like insurance, accommodation, travel, etc.
Terms and conditions of performers' contracts may vary depending on the performers, the events and the countries. Regardless, to us, performance contracts are very important because they are legally binding documents that outline the terms and conditions between parties and also provide clear instructions to determine how things should be done and to protect the involved parties.
Therefore, we urge all stakeholders to draw up and keep their contractual agreements to prevent event disasters.
